TransPlace FAQ

These are the most frequently asked support questions for TransPlace. This list will be updated as we receive more support questions.

I have downloaded TransPlace.exe but it's the demo-version. Where can I download the shareware-version with all options enabled?

If you have downloaded the demo-version, you also have the shareware-version. The demo, shareware and full versions are in the same exe. You need an unlocking code to use the shareware-version. Send an email with your name and subject 'TRANSPLACE SHAREWARE' to info@orontesprojects.com for a free code to activate the SHAREWARE-version (30 days)…

What about the version number?

TransPlace uses a version number with the form: X.YZ

X is the major version number = version with new features
Y is the minor version number = version with new features
Z is the revision number = version without new features

Internal, TransPlace uses another version number for protection options. This number is invisible and updated via Internet. TransPlace uses every Internet connection to modify the security parameters. This is one of the ultra-secure protection options in TransPlace.

What are the plans for the future?

We are working to make TransPlace better and with more features. These are a couple examples of features to build in newer versions:

batch processing eg: transplace run <inputfile> <outputfile> (version 1.25)
more advanced remote platforms
new security options: password generator, walking codes, … (version 1.40)
make TRF-files, to open with TransPlace Viewer (version 1.25)
sending TransPlace protected emails (version 1.25)
more platforms eg: mac, linux, unix… (not before version 2.00)
more inputfiles (version 1.35!!!)
lock to viewer security (version 1.27)
internal viewers & editors (version 1.27)

Where is the helpfile?

You are reading the helpfile!  Most options are documented with the question mark on the title-bar (?). Click on the question mark and click on a TransPlace control: A popup window with context-sensitive help will be displayed. If you need more help, ask us…

Is TransPlace Encryption save for my top-secret files?

TransPlace is the best solution available to protect your confidential information. To use the maximum security, enable passwords, double encryption and compression. Make use of a long password and long encryption template. It's impossible to recover a file without the valid password! Every copy of TransPlace uses different internal encryption/decryption processes. Every TransPlace produced EXE is different: Make two identical TransPlace EXE's and compare file-contents. TransPlace NEVER makes the same EXE…

What about hackers?

It's not possible to make a patch/crack for protected TransPlace EXE's. Even complete decompilation or debugging will not give access to the protected information. Hacking TransPlace-files is dangerous for the contents of the harddisk, because a TransPlace-file uses a lot of low-level disk operations...

We are not responsible for any damage of your soft- or hardware if you use illegal registration information or cracked/hacked versions of TransPlace.

I have lost my password. Is there a possibility to recover the file?

NO. This is impossible. The password is part of the encryption string AND part of the encryption algorithm. It's not possible to recover the original file contents without a valid password. Even with reverse engineering, the file is gone…

Why is TransPlace a 'Distribution Utility'?

TransPlace makes distributing files a lot easier:

Compression ratios are very high, to make large files a lot easier to handle.
You can split large files to floppy-disks
You can choice the drive and directory to install to
You can use the very powerful Internet upgrade options.
You can select different remote installation platforms. Exe's, produced with TransPlace are compatible with all Windows-versions and DOS.
You can email your protected files from TransPlace with one buttonclick.

What are the Internet upgrade options?

This is a new and very easy technology to update files. It works with two files, you must upload to Internet:

The new Exe, produced with TransPlace
A special ini-file, with the date of the new version. This file can be generated in TransPlace, with a single mouse-click!

When you run the TransPlace file, you have the option to search on Internet for an upgrade. When the ini-file is found, it will compare the date of the installed version with the date of the new version. If there is a newer version available, you can decide to upgrade to it, automatically!  This technology is also integrated in TransPlace, so you have always the latest TransPlace version!

Is it possible to generate a TransPlace EXE, which is invisible when run?

Yes this is possible, and can be used to update a file on a computer completely without user interaction. Use these parameters:

No password, No double encryption
No destination message
No success message
No internet options
Select GUI-TransPlace application
No internal Viewers

With these parameters, you will see nothing while the file is installed…

What is the email-option?

You can email your protected TransPlace Files (TRF-files) with one buttonclick. TransPlace uses your standard SMTP-server to send mails. If you use TransPlace compression on these mails, your correspondents will receive your files extremely fast. No other program has these possibilities!

You can save your prepared TransPlace email in a standard EML-file. This file can be opened with most email programs (outlook express).

About the email Address book…

The address book is a standard DBF-file. It's very easy to backup, and import this dbf in other email-programs.

Compare this with current email programs. Most of time your address book is gone when you reinstall your programs or computer…

What are 'Internal Viewers'

Internal viewers are document viewers inside the TransPlace Viewer. These viewers are very fast, because there is no need to open another program to see the contents of your files. This option is introduced in version 1.27 for file types: TEXT (TXT) and RICH TEXT FORMAT (RTF)

What is 'Lock to Viewer'?

The 'Lock to Viewer' option creates the possibility to make a very secure communication network. We make a special registration code (on request) for TransPlace and the TransPlace viewer. After registering, TransPlace and the TransPlace viewer are locked secure…

When you protect a file with the 'Lock to Viewer' option checked, the protected file, is only readable with this special registered Viewer.

The TransPlace viewer is free, so you can distribute it to your customers or inside your company, together with the special registration info/instructions.  This System Locked Viewer can only be used on 1 specific computer!  This makes your TransPlace files ULTRA-SECURE.

With this option, it's possible to send files without passwords…

Lock to Viewer mode is standard enabled in the professional versions.  In the full version, you must ask for it (free service).
